Simultaneously, she started her double major degree in Molecular Biology and Genetic in Acibadem University, Istanbul. During her BS degree, she has worked as a researcher in TUBITAK Star Project. After receiving BS degree, she started working as Operations Engineer at Bio-T Biotechnology Solutions and Production Inc. as of October 2022.

Sevi Kocagöz Castelli, Ph.D.

R&D Manager

Sevi Kocagöz Castelli, Ph.D. completed her BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, IL, USA. During her studies at IIT, she conducted undergraduate research on biomaterials and tissue engineering applications. She worked with Dr. Eric Brey and his grad students in evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of degradable porous hydrogels for vascularized tissue formation ( After graduating from IIT, she started her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, USA in 2011. During her time at Drexel University, she conducted research with Dr. Steve Kurtz at the Implant Research Core (IRC, ). During her PhD research at the IRC, Dr. Kocagöz conducted research on total joint replacement implant failure modes, materials and designs. She completed her dissertation “Investigation of Modular Taper Material and Design Factors That Affect Mechanically Assisted Crevice Corrosion at the Femoral Head Stem Junctions in Total Hip Arthroplasties” in 2021 ( .

Prior to completing her dissertation, she started working at 3D Systems, Inc. in 2016 as a materials and process engineer for photopolymer and thermoplastic 3D printing technologies. She continued working at 3D Systems as a materials and process engineer in the plastics R&D group until the end of 2022 and additionally became the Print Process Platform Manager for the Selective Laser Sintering printer platforms during her last year.

In December 2022 she obtained the online certification offered by MIT Professional Education’s Applied Data Science Program: Leveraging AI for Effective Decision-Making. She is currently pursuing Industrial Ecology at Leiden University in the Netherlands. With these latest pursuits, she hopes to use data science and machine learning techniques towards material development (material informatics) and implement systems level analysis of materials lifecycle.

Professor Tanıl Kocagöz

Co-Founder, Chief Scientific Adviser

Tanil Kocagoz, M.D., Ph.D. studied in junior high school, Izmir Saint Joseph where he learned speaking French and in senior high school, Istanbul American Robert College where the curriculum was held in English. He received “Michael Hamilton Best Science Student Award” at graduation. Prof. Kocagöz graduated from Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Ankara, in 1985. He worked as a director of a health center in Izmit for two and a half years as his conscription where he received a “Letter of Appreciation” from the Governer of Kocaeli for his important contributions to public health. Between 1988 and 1993 he completed Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases residency program at Medical Microbiology Department of Hacettepe University Medical School, Ankara, Turkey, where he later became associate professor. Between 1992 and 1994 he worked as a researcher at University of California San Francisco, Microbial Pathogenesis Unit where he took part in cloning and sequencing of penicillin binding protein 2 (PBP2) of Staphylococcus aureus and identified mutations leading to fluoroquinolone resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. After his return to Turkey he completed the Ph.D. program in biochemistry at the Medical Biochemistry Department of Hacettepe University. Development of new antimicrobials and rapid diagnostic tools for infectious diseases became his main areas of research. He moved to Istanbul in 2000 and dedicated himself to turn his inventions into products that will improve human health. For this purpose he took part in the foundation of R&D companies and concentrated his efforts for building a bridge between universities and industry in biotechnology.
